Behind the Pie: We Don’t Just Have a Staff— We Have a Crew

We Don’t Just Have a Staff  — We Have a Crew

Every company claims to “care about its people.” You’ve heard it before. But at Tootie Pie, that statement is bigger than a slogan — it’s a standard we hold ourselves accountable to every single day.

Why “crew” matters more than “staff”

We use the word crew intentionally. “Staff” implies hierarchy. “Employees” implies transactions. A crew builds something together. A crew lifts each other, protects each other, and rows in the same direction. Our success is never the result of one name on a slide — it’s the result of dozens of people doing dozens of things with care, competence, and pride.

What valuing our crew looks like in practice

We believe appreciation isn’t a poster on a lunchroom wall — it’s how we show up. We hired people because they’re excellent; then we trust them to be excellent. We treat our people like people, not like headcount.

Great companies are built by the people inside them

Our pies matter. Our company matters. Our success matters. But none of those things exist without the crew who bake the pies, take care of our customers, fix what breaks, and quietly hold the place together when no one is looking.

Companies don’t become great and then attract great people — it’s the opposite. We become great because we start with great people.

A simple promise

As Tootie Pie grows, the pressure will get bigger — but this part will stay non-negotiable: we will not trade our culture for profits, for productivity, or for anybody’s ego. We will keep building a place where talented people can do their best work with pride, safety, and support.
